Outing Report Abbeywood Gardens
Long Eaton & District Horticultural Society visit to Abbeywood Gardens
The Society's latest foray was to Abbeywood Gardens in Cheshire. This is a garden which has something for everyone, tucked away, was a children's outdoor play area, but for serious gardeners the formal and informal gardens were a delight. The main gardens are divided into separate areas each having their own planting scheme, which are designed to give all round seasonal colour. The exotic garden has a range of tender perennials including Banana and Cannas all which give colour until the frost. For the walkers there are 27 acres of mature woodland to explore also, 7 acres of a recently planted arboretum containing many rare species of deciduous and evergreen trees with stunning views of the Utkinton Hills. Tucked away by the side of the Poultry Enclosures, was the huge old vegetable garden with an abundance of different types and varieties of vegetables and flowers, which we understand are used to supply the excellent cafe and restaurant.
We were also treated to the bonus of a Plant Hunters Fair which our members took full advantage of! Another pleasant and successful day out.
