LONG EATON & DISTRICT HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY
1) SPRING SHOW
This was held on Saturday 7th April at the United Reform Church Hall. After the dark and dismal winter weather the show did not disappoint in lifting the spirits both in colour and variety of the exhibits. Plants outside were available to purchase, and after the judging of exhibits inside the show was open to the public at 10 am, refreshments available also, including cakes made by members.
Exhibits ranged from many varieties of daffodils from over 30 exhibitors, spring flowers from gardens of members, indoor blooms and vegetables, the children’s exhibits were strongly represented and were especially imaginative and entertaining. Other sections included culinary and wine items. Throughout the day visitors could try their luck at the tombola and a raffle was held at the end of the day.
Members meetings are held every 3rd Tuesday at 7.30pm at The Moorlands Club, Curzon Street.; there is a full program of talks so if you love gardening, want to know more, why not give it a try, the first 2 visits are free.
--- more reports will appear after the other shows.
